I have an idea for a new game and am presently working on the prototype. Could anyone tell me what I need to do to protect the idea from theft. The game has both components and written rules. Can I protect everything in one swoop or do I need to copyright the name and rules as well as patent the game itself.
    Cheers

Post all the details here and we'll see if it's any good. Remember if it's a GAA game the rules must be vague and open to challenge by a committer, oh and must be as gaelige also.

    Good luck !

Not really a GAA issue, should probably be in tech.

Protecting software is fairly easy - getting it enforced is less so.

I suggest you start by looking up the various software licensing terms, each license will have a different set of copyright restrictions. Pick the one that suits you.

For patents make sure you date everything, prior art is a big issue and you may have to prove. I have no idea about the patent process, so I can't help you there.
