Ford Focus Cluster Issue

    Hi,
I have a 03 focus and the instrument cluster is not working at the moment. It has happened before but usually comes back. I notice that it usually starts playing up after the battery dies or is changed.

When I start the car the engine starts fine but the dials stay at zero and the mileage etc is turned off. The petrol light does not come on but the handbrake and open door ones do. The lighting in the unit does also.

It usually comes back to normal after a few days use but not this time. Ford have told me if it needs a new unit it will be 570, I can't see how it needs a new unit though, if it has happened for about 4 years but always fixed itself and then was fine for months.

Anyone ever seen this? I guess I'm hoping it's a loose connection or something but suspect its banjaxed?

    Thanks

I've the same car with same issue with the cluster. I unplugged the battery for about 20 minutes to reset the ecu. Problem has gone away for the moment :D. If it rears it's head again I'll get a spare cluster of ebay.de. They have the speedometer in km/hr. Any millage correction place can alter the odometer if it's out by much. :)

Sometimes cleaning the PCB on the back of the clocks helps with these kind of issues on the Mk1 Focus. Where are you located?
