housing list

    hi there,

i'm currently 5 months pregnant on my first child (unfortunately the father will not be around..) and in my 3rd semester in college (i will be deferring my 4th semester until next year until i have everything sorted out.

i have a few questions: i am currently living in a 3 bedroom house with my mam and 2 brothers, she let me move back in after we found out the news but she said i can not stay here when the baby comes as there will not be enough room or bedrooms with my 2 brothers there.. i went into the council and got a form to apply for the housing list but i have been told that if i submit the form now (when only 5 months pregnant) they will decline my application and will say there is enough room in my mothers house until the baby is born. is this true? so do i have to wait until the baby in born to apply and get accepted for the housing list? (i will be applying to south dub county council btw)

as i will have no where to stay when the baby is born i was hoping that they would accept me onto the housing list before i am due in April so i can get rent allowance for a place for me and the baby before it comes..

regarding going back to college in January 2014 my college has a great day care place for any parents with children so that is great news on that front as i would be lost without finishing college

    cheers,
    sam

You could try the accommodation forum for more info on this. But in general you will have to wait till there are two of you.
At the same time there are single adults with no children who have been deemed in need of county/city housing, get the form in now and see what happens. You can always apply again.

thanks for the reply mp22, so you are saying i would have had a better chance getting on the list if i was still with the father of the baby?

I dont know to be honest,as far as I know the local authorities use a points system for allocating house's,If you have a child and are living with you family you will get x amount of points, the main point here is that if the council finds that you are in need of a house this will help a lot with rent allowance. It is most unlikely that they (council)will come up with a house for you.
