Winter has arrived!

So winter has hit us cyclists! Excluding commutes, how are we going to get in our training? Well there's the gym but that's not as realistic as on your own bike turning your own cranks! Other than that we're left with Wattbikes, turbo trainers and rollers. Realistically for most of us it'll be turbo trainer and rollers.

Setting this thread up for people to post links to rollers and turbo trainers of any price and make to give people an idea of whats out there and the price they expect to pay.

Myself, I'm looking for a set of rollers in the coming weeks and would like recommendations from people here of where they have possibly seen them on the cheap.

    Recommendations are welcome for both.

2 hours per day on the Turbo Monday/Tue Thurs/Fri before dinner. Long cycle/long turbo on Saturday.

Mountain biking and using the touring bike for road training for me. No turbo, no rollers, I like being outdoors.

Typically 30-60 minute sessions on the Wattbike;). I need to get the rollers out of their box and place them between the Wattbike and Tacx VR (to give me something to fall onto), then I might try and give them a go ...

60km round trip commute 3 days a week and a long spin at the weekend.

If the cold snap hasn't lifted by the end of next week I'll invest in a set of them schwalbe marathon winter tyres.

I'll worry about the turbo for higher resistance training if it doesn't warm up in January...

I took two weeks off training last year at Christmas, otherwise I cycled in snow, sleet, freezing rain whatever there was, figured surviving last year's WW200 meant I could take on anything.

I'm buying a turbo this year.

I aim to do everything outdoors. Turbo is a very last resort.

You can bring that outside too if you want to maintain a 100% outdoors record :D

I've slick specialized armadillo's on my MTB. They are not the grippiest tyres, and I don't think I'd trust them in this heavy frost around me. Those schwalbe marathon winter look quite pricey though.

€34 each from bike24, plus €10 shipping. They might be cheaper elsewhere.

edit: €30 from bikecomponents.de for the 26x1.75 version.

I'll be doing a long cycle at the weekend plus a couple of commutes during the week.

My Gym does spinning classes, they any use? Is a Wattbike similar to those used in spinning classes?

Joe Dalys will get 26 X 1.75 the same day or next day at latest. Got them last month. Great service for Schwalbe tyres.

Are those schwalbe any use on a road bike?

They probably won't fit unless its a CX bike

Planning on Spin classes in Jan. Probably once a week and the usual commutes plus club spin at the weekend. Will ramp it up from there in the new year. If the weather gets worse I'll buy some ice tires for the MTB. Not buying a turbo.

I got mine ( 40C) from eBay.de for 31euro each. Tried them this morning. It wasn't a bad as yesterday, but Schwalbe recommends to use the tires on normal conditions first to "break them in".

Still, a pair is cheaper than a 1/2 day ski pass in Verbier - and more winter-sports-fun for your money...

Extra points for the most ludicrous justification ever for buying new bike component.
