So was just walking around the house and one of the lads in the house asked me did I know my calves were different sizes...I didn't believe him so I measured them...My right calf is 1/2 inch bigger than the other:eek:

    My question is...Is that normal????

That may be medical, but it could be down to position of cleats and how much pressure you exude on your right crank..

Cleats are identical on both shoes

probably. if you are right footed that entire leg will invariably be stronger and hence bigger.

Are you talking about half an inch in circumference? if so, it's about 4mm extra diameter, which seems to be to be entirely reasonable given most people have one leg that significantly stronger than the other

EDIT - I've just measured mine and my right calf is probably a bit more than half an inch larger than the left one. I'm right footed, but my left leg is now stronger than the right one as the right has suffered from sciatica (well suffered more than the left one) for the past decade or so

No it's not normal that another dude can spot a 1/2 inch difference in the size of your calf muscles. Either A: he's spending too much time checking your legs out or B: he's measured them without you knowing it.

by any chance do you run a bit ? if ya do running on the roads can cause this - camber on road will work your two calfs differently..

I believe it's quite common for people to have a size disparity between their limbs. And probably not just the limbs either, stomach muscles, shoulders muscles, etc., on opposing sides probably rarely match too though you wouldn't expect a significant difference for some of those in particular.

My right shoulder sits slightly higher than my left shoulder, I was told it was perfectly normal. Most people aren't perfectly symmetrical! I hadn't noticed it for my whole life until my Mum pointed it out a few weeks ago. Turn back the clock and forget you were told, I doubt it will ever have any effect on your life!

Most people's legs a even different lengths up to 1 - 2cm. One of my testicles dangles lower then the other one, we are all asymmetrical some more so then others !

After a couple of decades of back problems my right shoulder is more than 2 inches lower than my left one. Not that anyone has actually noticed. I'm still awaiting the first Quasibloodymodo reference....

Don't forget if you drive a car your right leg/calf is getting an extra workout from the clutch and brake.

Horses can have a marked superiority on a left or right turning track. It might be their lead leg preference, or differences in physique favouring one side over the other.
Afair Sebastian Coe had an unusual physique. His legs were the same length.

You right-foot clutch? That must be awkward.

But only if the driver's seat is in the engine compartment?

(Assuming, of course, it's not mid/rear engined ;))

We're talking about calves, not foals.

Ah crap. I should not post while digging holes. Meant to say left. Even though I am right footed my left calf is a good inch bigger than the right. When I did powerlifting I could get a stronger drive off when squatting with the left leg.
