UN General Assembly vote on Palestinian Observer Status

Tomorrow The UN General Assembly will vote on whether or not to grant Observer Status to Palestine, which would allow Palestine to attend and speak at the UN and allow them access to numerous agencies and protections. It could also allow them access to the International Criminal Court, where in theory, they could bring charges against Israel of War Crimes, Crimes against Humanity and Illegal Occupation of Palestinian lands.

I fully support the right for the state of Israel to exist, I believe in self determination for all people, be they Israeli, South Sudanese, Kurdish, Basque, Scottish or Palestinian. And this vote passing would be a huge step towards an officially recognised Palestinian state without Israeli occupation or blockades.

Right now It's looking like over 100 countries will vote in favour, with a fair amount of abstained voted and a the usual handful of votes against from Israel, The US and some small Micronesian nations.

I honestly think the only hope of peace in the area is for Palestinian people to be in control of their own lands, without Israeli Occupation or Blockades and freedom of movement for Palestinian people.

I hope it passes and is used as the first step towards Palestine being granted full membership of the UN in the near future.

What do After hours feel about it? Should Palestine be granted Observer status in the UN?

I'm not usually one for online petitions, I'm generally of the opinion that they aren't worth the paper they are written on. But Recently stuff like The Fish Fight and other movements have had a pretty huge effect on EU policies. So maybe the tide is turning in that regard?

Below is a link where you can give your support to the motion being voted on tomorrow and and express your support for the right to self determination for the people of Palestine. Maybe it's a pointless exercise, but feck it, it can't harm you to sign it.

Yes, most definitely. Personally, I'm hoping America will save face and vote yes.

Ps: The emails I get from Avazz make me think it's a load of crap.

Have a wild stab in the dark at two of the countries that voted no.

I'd be amazed if America and Israel are not among them
