Hi guys , just got word from the mechanic that the engine in my car is kaput and that it will need a new engine

So my question is is it worth repairing or should I just scrap it

Car is a 2005 BMW E90 320d SE it has full black sports leather , sports steering wheel, iDrive , sat nav , 6 cd changer, newer style lci headlights , alloy wheels etc 110k miles
If I was to scrap it , how do u go about doing it , what would it be worth ?

if you are not going to replace the engine its probably worth more to break it

Well the repair is prob going to cost 4000-5000 car not worth a lot more so not really sure what to do

well i don't know how much you would get for scrapping, but if you were in a position to break it, there are a lot of those cars around, people always on the lookout for parts or leather interior/ alloys/ satnav/changer etc, just my opinion, i am sure there will be those with better knowledge than me to advise. but if you do decide to scrap it try and sell any parts off it you can like the ones mentioned above, easy removed and wont affect the scrappage etc.

Only break it if your handy with a spanner and can afford to leave it sit a while, might make 500 one day and might not sell a part again for another few weeks.

Best bet is put it on DoneDeal as is, someone might have a chrashed one with a good engine etc.... And they'll make a good car between the two.

I really hate to meet the fella that gave you the quote to replace the engine omg he is expensive.
We must of changed afew of them engines after all the floods that time on the 3 and 5 series and trustme the pricewasnt even close to that. We deal in bm,s so its a common enough job to change the engine

how exactly did a diesel go kaputt at 110k miles?

here is one of first ones I came across on ebay.co.uk

I can recommend guy to fit it if you like. Thats assuming that replacing the engine, will be cheaper than a repair.

Given that its the E90, id probably try to repair for cheap as possible. The only way I reckon breaking it might make sense is IF you did it yourself and IF the engine replacement or repair cost, isnt worth while...

    I'd be getting another quote.

What's that car worth? 7-8-9 grand?

No way it is worth scrapping.

    320d Engine code is M47 204D4 150bhp 2002-2005
COMMON CAUSE OF ENGINE FAILURE IN M47-204D4 ENGINES ARE

A- INLET MANIFOLD FLAPS BREAK AND ENTER ENGINE AND DAMAGE PISTON

B- LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE FROM OIL PUMP CAUSES CRANK AND CONROD BEARING DAMAGE

C - FAULTY TURBO CHARGER USING TOO MUCH OIL AND CAUSING ENGINE TO LOCK UP (SIEZE)
