What is a fair price for this service?

    Hi Folks,

What's a fair price for a good indy in Dublin to service a 08 VW 1.9TDI, last serviced 12K miles ago with oil changed.

If I was to get an oil change with 504.00 or 507.00 spec.
Replace oil, fuel and air filters.
    Check brake fluid, moisture etc.
    Overall check of car.

I reckon consumables are about 100 plus mark up, plus labour let's say an hour.

    Ball park anyone?

    Thanks,
    MAJJ

Please do not use that oil in your PD diesel engine.

    From http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-749-vw-50400-oil.aspx -

"Oils listed in this section meet the new VW 504.00 specification. These oils are suitable for all petrol engines with extended service intervals (30,000km or 2 years).

The VW 504 00 specification supercedes the VW 503 00 and VW 503.01 specifications. ...."

These are your man - http://www.opieoils.co.uk/vsearch.aspx?SearchTerm=vw%20507%2000

    or these even - http://www.opieoils.co.uk/vsearch.aspx?SearchTerm=vw%20505%2001

I've no connection with Opie other than as a customer. They do handy service bundles of oils, filters, etc for specific car & engine combinations

The poster above is correct in that 504.00 is the petrol engine spec and 507.00 is the diesel spec. However in reality most oils that meet 504.00 will also meet 507.00 and vice versa.

€180 is about right for a full inspection service in a proper garage using good quality parts covering oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter and cabin filter.

I intend on changing to a fixed schedule and change oil every 10k Miles.

Other than the oil change could someone please tell me what else needs to be changed and with what frequency?
    Oil filer
    Air filter
    Fuel filter

I had read these figures from this thread in post 11, pasted below. The intervals seem very long.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056794313

    Air filter change interval:
    every 90 000 km / 6 years

    Fuel filter change interval:
    every 90 000 km
    With bio-diesel every 30 000 km

    Fuel filter drain interval:
    every 30 000 km
    With bio-diesel every 15 000 km

Maybe should have opened a new thread, but would appreciate any views, thanks.

We usually use the following intervals on them:

Oil and filter every 15,000km or 1 year whichever comes first
Air filter every 60,000km but check/clean it every 15,000km and replace sooner if necessary
Fuel filter every 60,000km but with the amount of bad diesel out there at the moment there is a good argument to be made for changing it more often
    Cabin filter every 2 years
    Brake fluid every 2 years

I'd agree on all that george said except the fuel filter 30k is enough with the crap I'm seeing in filters with as little as 15k on them so really bad fuel around

I was in Halfords in Kilkenny yesterday (bulb) and noticed they have their own brand oils on special offer. They have both 505 01 and their "504 00 / 507 00" combination oils at reduced prices. I've used their 505 01 before with no adverse consequences.
