My club is falling apart at the moment and may be emalgimating with another club, so is there any way the county board can stop me from moving to another club and if not how would i go about it.. any suggestions would be a great help because i havnt got a clue.. thanks.

What county is your current club in?

    Typical GAA mentality!

You talk about problems with those in Ulster not wishing to become
part of the Republic & you have this shi** gombeenism!

The GAA has done a lot for this country but it's this small minded
parochialism within its own walls that are holding it back & doing nothing for the future of the sport or game.

Christ we have enough boundaries in this country.

Good luck with that, but as someone who recently just had a transfer turned town because his club was amalgamating, I'd be inclined to say you won't get one.

The only way the county board won't veto it is if your club cannot field a team at your age group, or if you were fighting with the management or something.

It's such a stupid system, I've only been playing with my club for the past 6 years or so, as I was a late starter, and for the past two years we've struggled to get a team and have been stuck in lower divisions. Tried to transfer to a club for my last year of minor and it was immediately turned down because they're amalgamating with another team who also are useless and haven't fielded a minor team that wasn't part of an amalgamation in 4 years.

The best I can do for now is give you this link. Click on your county crest and you'll be taken to their website. Then look for contact details for a secretary or equivalent. Contact them asking for relevant info/ forms.

If you tell me the county, i'll get the details for you :)

I dont understand whats the problem, i would rather move to a club with lads i know and go to school with than go to one with people i dont know... its not like im letting my team down because we only have 5 minors next year?

Don't give them the time of day my friend, plus they already got a ban for that post and closed their account in a strop anyway :)

    C.L.G. Ros Comáin

    Post:
    Roscommon GAA Offices,
    5-6 Castle View,
    Castle Street,
    Roscommon

    Telephone: 090 66 27176
    Fax: 090 66 27176
    E-mail: reception.roscommon@gaa.ie

    Opening hours: 10am - 5pm, Monday-Friday

The easiest way to do it is to email the offices, putting "Club transfer at X (Senior/Junior/Minor/etc.) level" as the subject. You'll get a reply in a day or two at most. Ask for details regarding your specific situation. If you email them tonight, you'll have a response tomorrow midday onwards.

    This layout worked for me:
    To whom it may concern,

I would like to request some information regarding the transfer of a player from one club to another within the same county at X level.

    Player: Surname, Name
Transferring from: C.L.G. A GAA Club
Transferring to: C.L.G. B GAA Club

    Yours Faithfully,
    Name

    transferlayoutemail.jpg

This form may be the one you are given, but make sure to inquire anyway.

Whatever you decide to do, you'll need to get it sorted out before March 31st, as that is the closing date for all transfer applications, though your application can be approved anytime thereafter.

    Hope that helped :)

You can only transfer if you move to the other parish. You are entitled to transfer back to your "home" club at any stage regardless of where you live.

Of course the rule is bent occassionally...

Theres no cut off date - BUT you cannot play in the same competition in the same year for two different clubs.

If you're membership of a club lapses , you may join any club provided you meet the criteria for becoming a member - usually residence of that club.
    - i.e. you were not a member of the GAA in 2012, you can elect to join a new club for 2013 without seeking a transfer.

....NOT unless that county has their own bylaw about it

In Dublin the transfer has to processed before January, but only because that's the start of the new season.

Your only choice is to apply to the County Board for a transfer, or spend a season not registered for any team and then the following season register with a new club.

that rule changed a few years back, you must get a transfer now regardless.
Btw this isn't soccer ,your club is your club, only reason i believe you should transfer is if your work or accomodation commitments leave you with no other option.

Hey OP, there is actually a person within the GAA who is an expert on navigating the GAAs transfer rules, if you need advice you can contact them via twitter

    Hi OP,
I'd be interested to hear what club you are from (PM me if you'd like to share)
If it's the amalgamation you are worried about, don't get ahead of yourself. My experience of Roscommon Co Bd is they will put a lot of obstacles in the way of amalgamations. Most likely they will look to make the amalgamated 'club' play in Div 1 where if you are from two of the smaller northern clubs you will likely struggle.

My opinion FWIW is you should sit is out. As above, Ros Co bd will refuse your transfer unless you can prove domicile in your proposed club area. If you are a strong minor from one of these small clube, you are likely to be strong enough to be involved with your clubs adul squad. My advise would be to concentrate on this and enjoy playing with your own club. If u move to a neighbouring club you probably won't enjoy it long term as much as you would with your own anyway. But anyway, good luck with it and keep plying the game

Why do you want to move?

Have 5 minors next year.. if we have a team it would be mainly full of u16's with 3 years left in minor.. if we do amalgamate it wouldnt b too bad but would rather be playing with a team of lads i already know and have played with before in school football soccer etc...

Would you move back to your proper club for adult football?

For 2013 all inter Dublin club transfer applications must be lodged between 1st-8th December 2012.

Players from clubs outside Dublin can join Dublin clubs throughout the year.

Quick question lads, I am thinking of heading over to England next summer and I was wondering is it possible for me to play league here and championship over there in the same year?

    Hi OP,

Look up the Roscommon GAA website and the motions for the convention this weekend.....the Co Bd are proposing allowing players from boundary areas to declare for a neighbouring club in certain circumstances, eg family ties to that area etc. There are 'terms and conditions' outlined(both clubs must agree) in the proposal and it will be reviewed on an annual basis....look it up and see if it will suit your case
