I have been biting my nails for as long as I can remember and have said a million times before I would stop but haven't. I am REALLY determined this time. I am using the Stop and Grow and have not bitten my nails in 3 days but can anyone recommend something I can use for nail growth/strengthening? I am going to have beautiful nails if it kills me!!!!

    Thanks in advance!!

I found that buying some nail polishes that I loved helped me stop. I bit my nails until I was 28 and had tried everything but I only stopped when I started painting them and I got used to them looking pretty. Plus I was less inclined to bite them when there was polish on them! The only downside is that it has led to a nail polish addiction but I can cope with that:)

In was a terrible nail biter - sometimes I would be so bad I would make them bleed. After years of biting my nails were not the best so I took a "hair and nails" supplement for about 6 months and it did the job, nails went from crappy to great! I can't remember the brand name but I got it is Boots near the pregnancy supplement section. They are still going well and I haven't taken the supplement in ages.

The best trick I had to stop was keeping my nails really short so that there was nothing for me to bite at, I had next to no nails for weeks. Then I went polish mad - changing colours every second day! Now I just have normal nails (something I never thought I would have) and am not crazy on polish anymore :)

Maybe try get a Shellac on what you have? It will keep the nail stronger and you won't want to bite through something you just paid for!

I would lokve to paint my nails but at the mo they are SO short that the last thing I want to do is draw attention to them by having them painted. I'm on day 5 now and as tempted and all as I have been I havent touched them. I have noticed a small bit of growth but I can already see how weak they are. Maybe a supplement would be the trick to strengthening them? Has anyone tried the Sally Henson clear polish for growth and strengthening?

firstly congrats on 5 days of non biting :D what stopped me biting my nails was when I started working in a pub & had to hand drinks / money / food to customers - was morto at the state of my fingers lol

if you're looking for something to put on your nails to help strengthen them I'd recommend OPI nail envy.... that's what I found worked the best for mine, have heard good things about rimmel's stronger double duty base coat & hardener too though

I was a biter until I started getting gel nails for about one year and this stopped the habit and then I let the gel grow out and used herome extra hard nail hardener to build the strength and now would never dream of biting.

Never posted in Beauty before, just saw the post on the front page and thought I'd jump in.
I bit my nails all my life, just couldn't stop. The bitter-tasting liquid you can get that you paint on your nails didn't work, as I'd just get used to the taste.

The only thing that worked for me (along with really wanting to stop) was Flexitol Cuticle and Nail cream - here's a link to it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Flexitol-Cuticle-Nail-Cream-20g/dp/B001DZPUOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355134861&sr=8-1
They used to sell in it Boots, but they didn't have it for a while to I just buy it online now. So check Boots first, perhaps they stock it again now.
It's a very rich nail cream, and it tastes horrible for hours if you stick your fingers in your mouth! Soon makes you stop. I massage it in to my nails at night also.
    Good luck!

The only thing that works is willpower! Book yourself a manicure four or five weeks in advance, that will give you motivation.

Used to be a severe nailbiter myself until I was about 17, I hated having ugly nails.

I'm gonna have to do that too I think , sure the website must be stated on their bottles , phoning my sister in Belgium to find out is the next step I suppose :)

Yeah I get it from a Belgium website my sister used to live in Belgium and she introduced me and all the other women in our family and extension to herome. My sister moved home a few years ago and since then we buy online. We also use the nail whitener which gives the nails a very subtle pale purple sheen.
