It's the best album of the 2000s for me, absolutely fantastic. Can't believe it's 10 years old :o

Obstacle 1 and PDA are the two standout tracks, with The New not far behind.

One of my favourite albums ever. Untitled is an amazing opener but possibly my favourite song is The Specialist which was only on the Australian and Japanese edition. I was lucky I bought mine in Sydney.

Incredible album that still sounds fresh to this day. Favourite track is a tough one, but I've always thought 'Leif Erikson' is sublime. Banks's delivery of the lyrics in that is brilliant and would never get sick of listening to it.

Didn't discover this album until after Antics. Leif Erikson is the standout track for me.

Fantastic album, however I hate these "deluxe" versions of albums, the origonal albums are great no need to add a bunch of demos not good enough to make the album in the first place.

Was in NYC last year and used to love walking around at night listening to this album. Brilliant album, absolutely love the likes of PDA live too.

I remember hearing Obstacle number 1 on Phantom, took forever to find out who sang it as they were still pirate ( it was the pre-recorded tunes). Anyhoo got the album on the basis of that song, fell in love with that album.

Other releases never matched up to that album, very formulaic. Found them to be pedestrian live. Haven’t listened to that album in ages. Must give it a spin. 10 years nuts.

It's a brilliant album but they never came close to replicating the sheer quality of the songs on anything that followed. First time I saw them live was in The Village supported by the then unknown Franz Ferdinand. Brilliant gig.

Ya was at that gig, my mate thought Franz Ferdinand were of German extract.

one of the best album I have ever listened to.
I have pre-ordered the deluxe edition a couple of months ago, it seems it will be released one week later due to some issues with the supplier ... really looking forward to receiving it.

He wasn't 100% wrong. I think Nick grew up in Germany.

My stereo has a 3 disc changer and TOTBL basically lives in it, it's pretty much the only album that does'nt get taken out.

    Brilliant album.

As brilliant as TOTBL is, I have a soft spot for Antics as well. I think it's a terrific album.

Corholio Im with you on that!
Don't think I'd buy the delux anniversary album.
Much as I do love Interpol it seems a bit of a money spinner to me.
I think that might relate to my current opinion on Banks. He's done a fair bit of self promotion of his now self titled work via Interpol sites.
What happened to Julian Plenti? I can't help but feel he's trying to the coat tales of Interpols former success

I believe "Julian Plenti" has been killed off, Ziggy Stardust style! :pac:

    From wiki
As of August 15, 2012, it would appear that Banks laid to rest the use of the alter-ego, "Julian Plenti" as on the official site of InterpolNYC, the name is referred to as "ditched". Also, the domain URL for the Julian Plenti website is as of this time deactivated and all mentions of the character removed from Banks' official Twitter account.

Can only assume he got sick of that particular moniker.

Always thought plain old "Paul Banks" would have been a better one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

He said it's because the Julian Plenti stuff were songs he wrote before Interpol even existed, and when he used to play using that moniker. Now he's been able to put that stuff out he can write all the new stuff and use his real name.

Same here, Antics is very good. And I also think Our Love To Admire is a very solid album, it's better than most bands could churn out.

Saw them in '08 which imo was around the peak and the setlist was pretty much perfect -
    1.Pioneer to the Falls
    2.Obstacle 1
    3.Narc
    4.C'mere
    5.The Scale
    6.Say Hello to the Angels
    7.Hands Away
    8.Mammoth
    9.Leif Erikson
    10.Slow Hands
    11.Rest My Chemistry
    12.The Lighthouse
    13.Evil
    14.The Heinrich Maneuver
    15.Not Even Jail

    Encore

    16.NYC
17.Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down
    18.PDA

Did you ask them in Tower? They're very helpful in there and will let you know when they're getting something in if it's not there yet. They'll even order it for you if necessary.
