I have a laptop here it starts up then the screen stays black and the white cursor sits in the top left of the screen frozen that would usually blink on boot.

Anybody any ideas what the problem could be??

Tried removing and replacing the RAM
Tried remove the battery and hold power for 60 seconds and replace battery.

    Any help is appreciated.

Try control-alt-delete and see if anything comes up. Have you any devices connected ?

Have you got a windows boot disk. If win 7 you have a repair option to either check for errors or reinstall

It doesn't even let you get that fair. Laptop starts up and the screen is black and has the small cursor in the top left that just sits there frozen.

Trying this, restart your computer and keep pressing the f8 key until you see a menu in white writing on a black screen, select repair your computer (presuming you have vista or windows 7) enter your keyboard layout and username and password if asked, it will show up your disk and it might automatically start to check for problems or you may have to select that option, if this does not solve your problem then repeat the process but at the end there is an "advanced options" tab, hit that and select system restore, pick a date older than the date your computer started having this problem and hit restore, if this does not work then you may need to bring it to a repair shop.
