Waterford Half Marathon

Ran the Dublin Marathon last month & haven't ran since because of sore knee (tried a couple of times but had to stop after a couple of miles). Knee feels much better this week & plan on testing tomorrow over a few miles. If all goes well tomorrow would I be OK to chance running half marathon on sat or would this be foolish? I've never really been injured before & it's a long time since I've went this long without running so not sure how these things go....

Nobody here can give you medical advice and as such nobody can say if its ok or not to run, its against the charter

To answer from a different perspective, what would you hope to achieve, by running the Waterford Half? You haven't run in a month, so you aren't well prepared. You are risking making your injury worse. So what would be the goal that would make it worthwhile risking it?

It's the end of the season so you could achieve two things:

    1) don't run and be injury free for new year. Just rest till Jan and do some core work if possible.
    2) Run the race and face making your injury worst and be out till next April.

I tweak my Achilles before dm and went back running a week after i did dm. Was still sore so now resting till Jan. Doing some core work now and looking after our 5 day old son.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Paul,

You should re read this post yourself.

Now ask yourself would it be it be foolish

You'll probably find it hard to finish it even if you're not injured if you havn't done anything in a while.
