One radiator not working

    Hi

Until yesterday, my heating was working just fine - all of a sudden one of the radiators stopped heating altogether. I have tried bleeding it, but that didn't help. The boiler was serviced (the annual checkup) just 2 weeks ago and all seemed to be absolutely fine...

Any idea what it can be (or how can I try fixing this as I am outta cash to call over a repairman only to turn a valve or something similar)?

Thanks in advance for your help,
    I

turn off some of the other radiators and see does it come on .

If it comes on its probably a balancing issue which is easy to sort, if it doesnt come on it may indicate another problem , but try turning off some of the other rads first and see does it heat up.

Is it a sealed system or an open system ?

You need to bleed all the air out of it until you have water coming out the valve. Thats all I know about radiators

    Thanks, will try that...

    Hi

Ok, it seems balancing issue indeed - I have turned off 1 other radiator, and the kitchen one heated up...

Probably the gas service man has "disturbed" the balance, as he has turned on the gas water heating (for hot water) which was shut off before ...

So, question is, how do I balance this (eg, add more "power" to the boiler) so that everything is heated up?

My boiler make is Vokera, model Mynute 16e

(Do I just have to crank up the 2nd knob from the left indicating some sort of a "power" a bit more towards the end?)

Thanks a mil, this is really helpful (you saved me probably good few quid with this tips and hints)!

It will depend on what he has adjusted. I would doubt he adjusted radiators but may have opened the cylinder balancing valve.
If he has adjusted something, why not give him a call to return?

From what I saw (and excuse my ignorance), the only thing he did was open the valve in hotpress which lets the hot water from central heating system into the hot press to heat it up (so I don't need to use the electricity for that purpose)...

In theory I could close that off, but I would rather stop having massive bills for electricity if possible.

On the other hand, I would try to avoid calling the guy, as I am wary of the "Aww that is 200 euro callout charge + 300 euro to fix" type of stuff...

But thanks, if suggestions here doesn't help, I will have to call him...

If you have a thermostatic valve on the rad, check the spindle isn't sticking. You could also open the radiator balance valve half to a full a turn to see if it allows more water through. IF it changes nothing, then wind it back.

Ok the balancing valve on the cylinder that he opened up , check did he open it up fully of half way or what ? generally the balacning valve on the coil to the cylinder needs to only be open half way or less in a lot of installations.
