Want to get some professional advice on buying entitlements. Figured i would set up appointment with teagasc to discuss. Should i expect to pay a fee or would this be 'free' if i get them to submit the SFP form next year?

Start with your local office, due to staff shortages they may not be in a position to take on new clients, but ordinarily you can sign up for a basic client fee (they will discuss this with you) and you can get SFP submitted on-line and any advice etc. you need.

Going to post a separate thread on this...symptom of Govt cutbacks but service in our area gone haywire...Mayo/Sligo.When you ring office phone rarely answered etc etc. However if we all go to private agents they are only in it for the short term.

Have experience of bad teagasc advisors and even worse private advisors who just ignore you when the heat is on. At least the teagasc advisors are answerable to a manager and above that an Ombudsman. Some of the private guys are the ones who either started with Teagasc and got the boot because they were not good enough, or they left with a load of Teagasc clients on their books - either way, not the type of person that I want dealing with my farm business.

Best advise is to approach a planner (teagasc or private) that is recommended by a number of people that you know in your area. Most farmers will have sniffed out the dud planners by now and will be able to point you in the right direction.
