    Just wondering about the following

Have an old Samsung ht-tx250 home cinema system (5.1 tallboy speakers) with optical audio connection and wondering will i be able to connect a LG 3d bluray to the samsung dvd receiver to get the 5.1 sound?

    cheers in advance

Yes you will but if you connect the Blu-Ray player to the TV via HDMI for the picture and to the old Samsung system via optical for 5:1 sound, the picture and sound will probably be out of sync. As the audio will most likely lag behind the picture, there won't be any solution to the problem since the only control on the Samsung system is to delay the sound even more which would make the problem worse.

With modern home theatre systems, you connect the Blu-Ray player to the surround sound amp. via HDMI and it takes care of a/v sync. Splitting the picture and sound to two different devices means that synchronizing the two can be sometimes impossible, especially if the amp. is much older than the TV and can't process digital sound fast enough.

you could try a component lead between blu-ray and TV rather than HDMI. It might not have synch issues.

The OP's system has 'component out' but no 'component in'. There is no video 'in' of any kind. He has digital (optical) and analog audio 'in' but all of the video connections are 'out'.

I'm suggesting Comp from BR player to TV. Not the system. It might not have synch issues.
