I have a Nikon D80 with an 18-200mm VR lens.
I'm quite happy to lose the lens and it's advantages by selling the lot.
What I want to ask here is what should I go for next in order to bring
my gear up to date....what might the next move be, even if it means
    not having a super zoom.
What might be the next step up in terms of quality and price and maybe HD video as well which my D80 does not have.

Apart from video, what do you feel you're missing out on with your D80 ? What problems in your current photography are you trying to address by buying a new camera ? Or is it just a gear lust thing (which is perfectly ok in it's own right of course :) )

Keep your lens and buy a Nikon D7000

Just gear lust really although I rightly or wrongly feel the D80 is becoming old tech and maybe I should update to something right up to the minute with maybe 24mp, HD video.I'm an amateur and really love the D80 so perhaps my attitude to trading up is jumping the gun.I don't know and would appreciate any advice.

higher spec.Thank you. What would be next in line upwards?

D80 is a good camera - I still have one as a backup. Now have a D7000. Big jump in quality - ISO range/low noise, Megapixels. Video, Focus Points, controls etc. Only downside is that its about to be replaced sometime early next year - rumours vary as to by what, but certainly 24Mp etc.

The questions I would really ask is how much do you want to spend and what do you want shoot?

The options right now would be to get a second hand D7000 (about to be replaced) or D700 (already replaced) or possibly go for a D600/D800 (big jump in price).
