Commercial Rates

    Hi everyone,

I know someone who used to pay commercial rates on a shed he had when he was a sole trader. He has since closed the business down and has the property available for rent, however he has to submit proof of this to the council every year to avoid rates. Nobody seems interested in renting it as it is not in a great location so he has to go to all this extra work every year and he says he has to pay the rates or keep it up for rent. I was thinking there must be a way to get out of paying rates and declare it in use domestically or something like that. Has anybody any experience of this? Thanks for any help!
