Taxed with emergency tax - what to do?

    Hi there,

I am seeking for good advice. I moved to Ireland in the beginning of this month to start new job. With my first salary I was taxed with emergency tax. I have already sent the 12A form to Tax office 2 weeks ago.

What should I do in order to get back the taxes I have overpaid? Is there also some refunds from PRSI?

    Thanks for any advice!

Nothing you can do only wait for your credits cert to come through, could be a few weeks. When it does come through you should get the extra tax you paid back in your wages if the payroll is done properly so you won't have to do anything.

You can also try calling them to see if they can speed it up.

I'd definitely ring them up and even better, try get your employer tolring for you as I find Revenue reacts a little faster for employers. If it goes into the new year, then you'll have to request a balancing statement from Revenue to get the tax back as employer can't refund money from a previous tax year. Tax runs from Jan to Dec each year.
