Planning on doing maybe a week in these two cities wondering which should I spend longest in? Some do a day trip in Helsinki would I need longer? Also should I fly into Tallin and remainder of days out by Helsinki or other way round. Was trying to find which airport has the dearest airport charges that would push the price up. I think 4 days in Tallin would be comfortable but dont know weather to do a day trip or 2 days in Helsinki.

The old centre in Tallinn is nice, but I'm not sure the place would warrant more than 2 days. Helsinki's where it's at in terms of sights and things to do. Also, there's a sea cat service that takes about 40 minutes or something, and neither ports are far from the centre, so flying in and out of either airport would be OK, too. But it also seems like a good idea to fly into one and out of the other.

There's fantastic cruise ferry's between Stockholm & Helsinki and Helsinki &Tallin. You could potentially visit all three cities in a few days and spend overnight on the ferry's which can work out cheaper than a decent hotel and have great service.
Helsinki and Tallinn really just need a day trip but that's just my opinion.

I did a similar trip this March where I spent 3 days in Stockholm, 2 in Helsinki and 2 in Tallinn. I thought it was an adequate amount of time in each. Tallinn, in particular, is small.

Flew Dub-Stockholm with Ryanair, flew Stockholm-Helsinki with Norwegian Air and ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn.

Used hotwire.com in Stockholm and Helsinki (because they are pricey) and stayed in a hostel in Tallinn.

Can be done very cheaply as long as you look for bargains and use public transport.

Click on the link in my signature if you want more detail about the cities because I wrote about them.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for replies did Stockholm already. So just need to figure out base in Tallinn and day trip to Helsinki or fly into Helsinki and out of Tallinn. Will check out prices. I'm torn between doing this for my boyfriend's birthday or doing a long haul for both our birthdays. Lot of research to do :)
