hey, let me begin by saying i am a total noob at satellite stuff!

just moved into a house in swords that the previous owners had wired for sky.

there is a dish at the back of the house.

there are two coaxial feeds in the living room. my dad gave me a humax box he had and thought it should be plug and play to get free to air channels on the box till i get upc out.

i have tried both cables into the 'antenna in' on the back of the box, and sued the hdmi to connect to tv. i have tried going back to 'default settings' to clear the box, but when it does its auto scan then no channels are found.

signal is 0% and quality is 0%

i have tried doing a manual scan on channel 54 at 738000 but no channels are found either.

am i doing something wrong?! all help appreciated cheers

Satellite dish cables wont work in a terresterial box. you will need an aerial. most possibly a loft or outside UHF aerial. There are instances of people getting away with small interior aerials.

The Humax 9300T is a Freeview standard definition receiver. It won't decode Saorview MPEG4 video. All you'll get is radio channels & audio from tv channels, unless you have an aerial that can pick up Freeview broadcasts from Northern Ireland.

Yes, a sky box or any other FTA sat receiver providing cables are in decent condition & dish is correctly aligned - ie. hasn't shifted due to weather.

Don't buy a Sky box for free to air channels. They are clumsy for this purpose and use excessive electricity. If you have an old one lying around OK but if buying go for a Freesat or free to air box.
