Golf anecdotes

Here’s my story from the weekend.

Played Carne, Belmullet (my favourite course) last Sunday morning. We teed off just after 8am and had the place to ourselves for the first hour. The course was playing easier than normal, yellow tee’s, no wind and the ball was skipping down the fairway. My playing partner (GC) and I are both high handicappers' and we’ve played Carne over a dozen times now. I’m married to a local woman and GC is going out with her sister. Not taking part in any competition, just enjoying the round and the views.

I pared the 10th and we climbed the hill up to the 11th tee box. Hit my 3wood down the fairway leaving me a 7 or 8 iron in, GC hit a lovely 3wood down past the corner and on the left hand side of the fair way, no more than a pitching wedge in. As we left the tee box GC saw a bird fly to my ball and GC said laughing “he’s going to take your ball”, “he can’t” I replied “he’s already got your ball in his beak” The bird flew off up the sand dune on the left, dropped GC’s ball half way up, flew back down to my ball, picked it up and flew off over the big dune on the right. I was running down to hill hopping to get there before him but all I could do was watch was he flew off in the distance. :D I stopped where my ball finished up and walked up the dune to where I though the bird had dropped GC’s ball. Didn’t find it but found two ProV1’s (nice).

Under Rule 18-2 “If a ball at rest is moved by an outside agency, there is no penalty and the ball must be replaced.” we dropped from where we though our ball finished up and played on to the green, (I scuffed my first shot and chipped on in three – we were still laughing). While on the green the bird flew back, picked up GC’s ball from the dune and flew off again. Next time we’re up (open days during Christmas) I’ll have to ask the green keeper where the birds nest are as I want my expensive top flight 4 golf ball back.

I found this photo on Google images just to give you an indication of the hole layout and where we landed - GC’s in red and me in blue. The photo was taken from where the bird dropped GC’s ball.

If there is a similar tread please merge, I was unable to find one.

God damn ravens prob my best shot all day and a bird takes my ball. I'd previously heard of these ravens but i seriously thought it was a myth and ya man telling me was raven but no, it does happen. It's the funnest thing i think i have ever seen on a golf course, nearly a week later still laughing.

I was 15yrs old and had hit a par 5 green in 2 for the 1st ever time, when a terrier ran onto the course and stole my ball off the green and into a neighboring garden.
To this day I'm convinced the owner had the dog trained to retrieve the balls from the green. The only evidence I have for this is my own paranoia.

Used to play at Silvemere in Surrey and 8th and 9th (I think) had high voltage Power Lines overhead. A Skyed tee shot resulted in a zapped ball

Best I have seen was in city west. Wedding party decide to have pictures taken just off the 18th green during competition golf on a Saturday. Anyway we are waiting ages to hit in. Looking at each other saying what the hell is going on here. They were ages there! Like 15 minutes!! Joking between ourselves still saying safest spot for them be at the pin hwa hwa hwa... Anyway we end up saying this is ridiculous and play in. First fella lands about 8 foot from the pin and one of the flower girls runs onto the green and kicks the ball off the green!!!
