Hi all was looking for advice about farming next year. I have a 100 acre farm which i've farmed in the past but gave up three years ago- wasn't getting any EU payment so wasn't making money, went back to college instead. Now with the reference year coming up I'm wondering if I should take back the land as I intend to farm in the future (will be tough financially/geographically next year but also hoping to build house on land) and would hate to miss out on the payments going forward;). Any comments/advice would be great

Would talk to ag consultant or teagasc advisor about this.I am not sure about this but you may have had to apply for sfp in 2011 or 2012 to be able to claim entailtments in future. Its still all up in air at moment. So would get expert advice on this.

The reference year is just guess work at the moment. The ship may have sailed in that regard, who knows. Your financial plan could be based on some very dodgey foundations, but your Ag adviser is definitely your best option at the moment. I'm sure Europe will inform us after they've released it to the German news papers

Youre right about having to have applied in 2011. But I think like the GAA theres going to be a back door system of some sort for anyone who didnt submit a SFP application in 11 and for anyone who only started since then. IM in almost the same boat as I am currently farming and have land which was out on a long term lease which expires in 2014. I am intending to farm the extra land myself, as far as the new reference year nobody knows whats happening yet
