    Right,

I have been fighting with myself over this for a long time, and last night I was sitting there and I honestly felt depressed. I have to give them up. I will give them up.

    Today is that day.

I will keep a very regular update here.

So far, its been 10 hours and 7 minutes since I quit.

If you don't mind I'm going to set up here in your thread because I feel like, though we have never met, we are brothers as of today.

Same deal for me. I sat there last night, smoking the last smoke in my box before I went to bed thinking "Ah ****, I have no smokes to go with my coffee in the morning, I'll have to go straight out to the shop".

In that moment, just how much I am dependent on these little white sticks hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm actually a junky.

So I resolved not to buy any in the morning. It's been 21 hrs 47 mins, and I am in hell. But I'm going to win.

Best of luck to both of you. You are doing the best thing you could ever do for yourselves.

I did it on Jan 1st. Still free and loving it.

Its much much worse thinking about it than doing it, you have already won the mental battle by deciding to quit.

    Im cheering you both on!!

it has now been 36 hours! :) I'm so happy with myself, but honestly I have to thank some friends for the support.

Had a date last night and it went really really well as I didn't have a craving at all the whole time :)

Maximus Alexander, I'm delighted your doing this too! And I'm always available if you need someone to tell you not to pick one up, as you mentioned, brothers as of today :)

I'm sad to say I cracked at about 44 hours. I lit up, took a couple of drags, and then felt so ashamed and stubbed it out.

I know I'm essentially back to square one, but I don't care. I'm going to keep going. I will not be ruled!

No, that's the wrong way to think, there is no square one, every smoke you don't have is one that doesn't contribute to ruining your health, your still off the smoke's you just had a hiccup.

Most quitting expert's will tell you this, it is a fallacy to say that one smoke means all your previous effort is for nothing.. Keep it up and remember little blips are perfectly normal, just make sure you regroup and keep going!

Agree with Dean_Mc - look at it this way - Im almost a year off them. If I had a couple of drags now and then stubbed it out would you think Id failed to quit or just had a slip?

You're dead right guys, that's a much more positive way to look at it!

It's weird because when I was taking a drag all I could think was "This is crap, is this really what I've been craving for the last two days?" Smoking is actually not even nice, the drug just kids you into thinking it is.

    + a million!!

You have to face the first 72 hours like its battle - get pumped, and go to action, let nothing take your mind off it.

Your brain will be going 'ill just have a smoke, oh hang on Im not smoking, ah sure ill just have one, oh hang on i cant, ah go on, no, no, ah sure ill just have one now and then ill make dinner etc.....'.

You just ignore all that and keep drinking plenty of water, sucking on a mint or a tic tac or a fishermans friend, eating plenty and taking some aspirin or paracetmol if you get headachey (stress can make you feel a bit off).

3 days - thats all it takes. The you can remove your battle gear, and just go into lower level cautiousness, where you have the odd scrap but its not constant.

You'll be grand - its great to get off them!

    Hi Guys.

As of 8 hours 53 minutes ago I have been off them for 1 week.

I have had two half's since then. I had a very stressful day at work on Friday. After 2-3 drags on it I stubbed it out.

Saturday night I had a few beers and had a half too.

I do not regret doing either and I am very proud of myself for my effort this week.

    Here's to another week ahead!

It's not for everyone but it has kept me off the smokes for nearly a month, I feel much better and I have already cut down the nicotine amount. The sub forum here for vaping has lots of good people who are very friendly. If I was you I would pop over, say hi and let them know what kit you bought, they will be able to give you pointers on getting the most out of it.

Just remember every smoke you don't have is a little win, concentrate on that and don't beat yourself up too much!
