Hi. I'm looking for a set of lights for my Giant Defy 2. I tried to fit my sons cheapo set, but the bar was too thick for the front one, not sure if this is the bike brand/type that was at fault here, as the light seems to fit our other mountain bikes also. Hoping you guys can recommend a good set in the €40-€60 price range. My cycling is mostly on unlit roads, so good vision is important along with the usual "to be seen" requirement.Although I suppose I could get a second front light for that purpose if need be. So open to all suggestions. I have no problem buying online and I see some online shops do free shipping which is handy. Thanks for you help.

I don't think you're gonna get anything suitable on that budget. €40-60 on a 'be seen' set and then another €100 ish on a lighting your way front light.

I use a Fenix TK11 which, along with batteries, charger and bar mount comes out at around €100.

I 'd go for two sets of the smart 35lux with .5 watt rear. Comes to just under 60 pounds on amazon.co.uk. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Smart-Lunar-Front-Watt-Light/dp/B005GPLYUO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1354064848&sr=8-2

    Good value

Thanks for this reply and recommendation. Funny I just bought this set from chain reactions for €36 about 2 hours before you posted this. This set gets pretty good reviews on most sites and seem to be good for the money. Will post what I think.

Got the smart lunar 35 lux set delivered Today. Tried them out this evening. Great set for the money, very well build, easy to fit and clip on and off. Light has 3 settings, normal, high and blinking. High is pretty damn good. Normal is good too, but you can see a difference when changed to high.

I got that set a few weeks ago and i find it great for my use - commute with mostly lit roads, but few sections unlit, but with a good road surface.
If training, or descending a poor surface without any other lights it might not be bright enough.

Another vote for the Smart Lunar 35 set. €35.90

    +1

I have two smarts the 2w and a 0.5w rear. I've got a 3w chinese light and its brighter. Ok for the dark phoenix park and lit streets, but you'd need something better if it was a country unlit road.

Ebay, for 20 euro you won't get better than this.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1200-Lumen-CREE-XML-T6-LED-Bike-Bicycle-Outdoor-Sports-Light-HeadLight-headLamp-/300677445326?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

Just buy whatever light you want for the rear. I also got a wide angle filter for the front light so it spreads it a bit more.

This and this is withing your price range and would be very bright. Have the rear light and would give it the thumbs up, the headlight has been mentioned here many times but I haven't used it.

Yes of course, if you were traveling at speed or downhill then I can imagine that the bike would out pace the light if that makes sense. This is my first season with the road bike, so I an't breaking any speed records, just getting out for a bit of fitness. But I would imagine that by next winter I will be in need of a good headlight.
