Despite training as a marine zoologist and diving for the previous 17 years primarily out of an interest in marine life, Ian Lawler’s diving career took a radical change when he dived the 1875 wreck of the sailing steam ironclad HMS Vanguard in 1990. It kindled a deep and abiding interest in shipwrecks and their history and set him on a path that was to lead him to trimix and the deep clear waters of Donegal.

Ian was a member of the 2nd Deep Wreck Mysteries Series which was aired on ITV and the History Cha
nnel in 2009 and was involved in both the “Death of a Battleship” and “Collision Course” episodes.

He has been part of several expeditions exploring the wrecks off the coast of Ireland including the discovery of the White Star Liner Carinthia in 116 metres.
