What is the best scam you have ever heard of or fallen victim to ?

I heard this one before :

Back in the late 70's a company offered to cut your bills in half, if you sent them 10 dollars processing fee. In return you got a cheap pair of kids plastic scissors.

They were charged with mail fraud, after hundreds of people complained, but they must of made a ton of money.

I remember reading about this scam in a book about crime when I was a kid. The company advertised a 100% effective cockroach killer, person would send away for it along with a check for however much then they would receive two blocks of wood and a set of instructions which told them to place the cockroach on one block if wood and then smash the other block of wood down on top of it.
