    Hi.
I have a query about a problem with a Ford Focus i'm hoping somebody could help me with.
The car is a 2000, 1.6 petrol. The issue is the exhaust (back box) has fallen off due to corrosion and it pretty much died on me while driving.
    1 week Later..
There was no power in the throttle whilst accelerating over about 3500 revs.
Felt like i was on the rev limiter at around 3500.
Managed to limp home with Hills causing a real problem were the car slowed to a waking pace.
    No engine light came on.
I ran a a diagnostic on it when i got back and got the fault code P1131.
After some googling of the fault code it seems like the exhaust might be the problem amongst other theories.
So my question is can the missing exhaust cause such a major power failure to the engine ?

The car is missing an exhaust. Why do diagnostics. Replace the exhaust. Then decide if its down on power.

Simply put, of course a car will be well down on power with bad/leaking/missing exhaust.

I doubt a missing back box would cause the car to go into Limp mode. It is too far downstream of either of the oxygen sensors to cause an issue with the mixture control loop. The code you referenced there relates to the post CAT oxygen sensor which provides feedback on whether the Catalytic converter is doing its job efficiently. A blocked/badly performing CAT or another emissions related issue such as a vacuum leak would certainly cause poor performance in the car. I would suggest a competent garage diagnose the actual fault using the correct diagnostic hardware. A replacement backbox would set you back no more than 60-80 notes.
