How much would it be to replace steering rack and 4 glow plugs on 2003 focus tdci roughly? Do the steering racks give much trouble on them or do certain parts wear that can be changed instead of the whole rack??? Car has 127k miles on it now.
    Thanks
    Gav

Anyone any idea of rough cost?

For a reconditioned rack with 12 mth waranty you'd be looking at around 270-300 euros for the part and about 100 labour. A set of glow plugs would set you back 70 supplied and fitted.

Thanks for that i hope I don't need to replace the rack so as that's a good bit. Just after changing water pump and alternator beginning to wonder should I just change the car!

What makes you think you would need to replace the rack out of interest? Its a common issue that the seals leak. Does the steering feel very woolly? Ae the rubber gaitors protecting the tie rod ball joints weeping power steering fluid?

Well mechanic said it's problem with rack but I don't know if he needs to replace it or just seals as you say till I talk to him. I don't think it's leaking at all iv not noticed it anyway steering just seems stiff at times esp in morning and seems like bit of a knock in it turning left.

In April I had to replace the steering rack in my TDCi, bought a secound hand one for 80 euros and got it fitting for 100 euros. Have had no troubles since.

I picked up a steering rack for 75 today in a scrap yard so hopefully it's in better nick then one on car at the moment. Any re con or new one is 230 to 330 before I fit it so fingers crossed its a good rack. Glow plugs getting fitted tomorrow too so should be that sorted.
