Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sheep tags from Donegal?

I met a man a few weeks ago who had nice small tags in his sheep.

I got tags from Mullinahone and am having nothing but trouble from them, turning around in the sheep ear, infections, falling out (both the electronic tag and the other mart type in the other ear), it's awful.

The man couldn't tell me the name of the company, does anyone know? They're electronic permenant tags for ewes and ewe lambs I'm after.

Does anyone know if I can get all my existing tags replaced? To be honest I feel like cutting the lot out of them

    Thanks Razor,

I just found them online there a minute ago.

You don't know if the Dept let people replace tags in the circumstances like above do you? I hate to see this happen to my sheep.

I wouldnt be 100% sure but if you were to retag all and collerate new tag with old tag in your flock register there shouldnt be a problem

probably best to ring them to be sure

ive used mullinahone before and had some infections but not as bad of problem as your having

i find cormac's tags in Tuam to be pretty good

    Hello,

    A bit off topic...

I am seeing a lot of issues with tags getting infected. I have started trying to rotate them after I put them as I read this is supposed to help.

Anyone else seeing this issue, and any ideas on what to do to resolve this?
    Thanks.

there a nice tag been using them since eid tags came in, leave a bit of room for sheeps ear to grow when tagging them as lambs, also takes the best part of a week to arrive, think they come from england, over all very happy with them,

Yeah, I am going to ring the Dept & the crowd in Donegal, I think I'll need red replacement tags.

It's terrible because the sheep have to be feeling pain from them they're big tags in an infected hole. They're not all infected, don't take me up wrong. But I've had a fair few and I'm not putting up with it anymore. If I was doing it and it wasn't official I'd be liable for cruelty I'm sure. They also leave a real big hole in their ears. It's not right.

I know rotating is done with earings the first time kids get them, so there could be truth to that.

    Hello Con,

If you wouldn't mind letting us know how you get on, as would be interested to hear.

    Thanks.

cormac sell a ear puncher, basically you punch a hole in the ear wait for it to heal and then insert the tag, its under €20 in think

Tom Staunton mentioned it in an article in the journal earlier in the year

ive used it on my ewe lambs but havent got around to tagging them yet

That could be an idea as well, it's worth trying. Had a couple of lads in looking at the sheep as pure bred and they weren't surprised at the tags so it must be happening to a few
