can you give us some more info

what will your boyfriend be mainly using the laptop for?

    1. gaming/graphic design
    2. web browsing / office apps
    3. video/music editing

also what is your max budget?

Hey, thanks for the reply, it would be more for video and music, he would do alot of browsing online too, downloading and that kind of stuff, max budget would probably be 600?

right first thing i will say is AVOID ACER LAPTOPS!!!!

they are rubbish and are notorious for faulty screens

http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/ is a good place to start looking for laptops

for video editing i'd recommend at least an i-core 3 preferably an i-core 5

    minimum 4gb ram preferably 6gb

at least 500gb hard drive preferably 1tb hard drive

a dedicated graphics card with at least 512mb onboard memory preferably 1gb onboard memory

after then everything else is pretty standard

    Brands that are decent:

    Dell
    HP/Compaq
    Toshiba
    Samsung
Sony (tend to be pricey though)

    This.

Beautiful laptop, great specs, great price.

You will not find anything better for under €600 euro in my opinion.

It will do everything you want, and is very well made.

its a big winner here in Boards from what i've seen.

and this rubbish about Acer laptops is pure fiction, in the past they had problems, but its fixed now. :/

    * Asus has nothing to do with Acer by the way.

    Any links?

Gaming laptops are only useful if you play high end games a lot, otherwise its a waste of money on something you don't need.

4Gb with an option for upgradable memory.
then in future you can always but another 4Gb stick, they cost around €30.

if you're not using it for gaming a lot, a gaming laptop isn't really the best choice as its directed towards gaming and not computer functionality. Well any of the ones i've seen for a reasonable price.

Goodluck with the purchase either way!
