I recently spotted a leaflet for an Irish company which sells car warranties to private buyers. AFAIK, its the first such company to do so in Ireland.

    Anybody use this company's services?

Seems to me to be just an insurance policy that covers mechanical failures.

Just got a quote, €300 quid a year for a 10 year old Focus. Ha!

So you gave them your e-mail address and phone number? You might come to regret that when they start pestering you to sign up.

Most of the money goes on administration and sales commission, very little of it actually covers the the risk that your car will need repairs so that type of product represents sh1te value for money.

This product is no different from the extended warranties sold by electrical shops - strictly for mugs.

    That's exactly what it is.

Mapfre also have some kind of deal with merlin car auction where you can buy a warrantee on a car you have just bought through auction. This gives me the feeling that very little is going to be covered by these warranties

Well, I gave them a phone number and an email address. Forcing people to put in details to check the price of something leaves you with a database full of rubbish.
