a good Cotes du Rhone, Languedoc or Rousillon will be perfect.

Yes but.... as I sell wine I can't be seen to promote my own bottles.

You can mention brands/labels. And you can put a discrete link in your sig if you wish. ;)

    Much obliged. :D

the specific reds I'd recommend would be

2008 CHATEAU DES ROQUES, VACQUEYRAS (14.99)
    2008 CASCADAIS, CORBIERES (12.99)
    or a 2006 d'ARFEUILLE, ROUSSILLON (was 19.99 now 12.99)

these are all exclusive to <mod edit - see poster's sig>

For turkey & ham it has to be Pinot Noir. The Mount Difficulty sold by winesdirect.ie is excellent - http://winesdirect.ie/10333.html

If you're having lots of stuffing I find a nice Aussie Shiraz can work well.

all due respect to the above suggestions but the aim is to match wine to the entire course and not parts of it.

He asked for suggestions to match with turkey and ham. What am I missing here?

Sorry, I can see Pinot Noir with ham alright but it's far too light for turkey imho. We'll just have to disagree.

I'm suprised that you think that. Pinot Noir is widely regarded as a good match with turkey. Anyway, I had the 2009 Mount Difficulty last year for Christmas and it was outstanding. It's also more medium bodied.

if you guys can match a wine to turkey and/or ham then please by all means suggest it!

if you have a 'festive' red that will match the entire meal and day, then by all means suggest it also!

I have picked up a South Oz Shiraz and a South Oz Merlot

im up for grabbing a few more bottles to try with my family

    perhaps something Argentinian? Portugese? Chilean?

Depends on the quality of the food.

I'm not a big wine drinker but I do like wine and I really wouldn't try anything other than a strong wine for a dinner like xmas dinner, my suggestions reflect my wine tastes.

a good Sancerre/Poilluy Fumé or maybe a white Vacqueras (Cote du Rhone again).
If you're looking for a nice aperitif before dinner then Aligote (a white burgundy) is a cracker.

    Hi
I realise this is a bit out of date but here you go:
For the last few years we have pushed the boat out a bit and have gone for mature bordeaux...the first year we did this it was with an '82 Cos d'Estournel :D:D:D and that has been the benchmark ever since..I think it took ~ 3 hrs to drink the bottle due to the layers of flavour that seemed to keep going on forever....sigh!!
This year we had an '88 Clos l'Eglise which was also delicious (8 out of 10 compared to the one above)
If one looks hard enough you can come across bargain for these and its worth paying extra at christmas...
