See fitzpatricks naas have got Mercedes franchise and the former crossings naas premises are to be new Toyota dealers run by monastervan motors crowd. Thought sheehy motors did very well with merc did they give it up to concentrate on Audi ? Have fitzpatricks lost or given up Toyota ?

    No, they gave it up.

They have garages in Carlow, Kildare and Tullamore too? Effected?

Yes i presume so,i heard (un officially) it was due to problems in Kildare town where they were selling other new cars apart from Toyota.

Mechanic working there told me the same. They sell more Hyundai's than Toyota's. Order was to stop selling other brands on forecourt and they could not do this, so they gave up the toyota brand. It effects all the branches. Not sure about Lexus on same site.

Murphy & Gunn in Rathgar also switched from Toyota to Hyundai. Is this a sign that Toyota is not the force it once was in the Irish market - dealers are prepared to walk away? Or are Toyota getting stricter about branding etc?

I'm confused about Sheehys - are they losing Merc in both Naas and Carlow?

It's a really big shake up in Kildare. Fitzpatricks were synonymous with Toyota - probably back as far as the 70s. Nuns and priests came from all over Leinster to buy their cars there once upon a time!

Monasterevin Motors is unoffically multi-francise AFAIK but they seem to specialise in 4x4s.

Yea, why is Laois mentioned? Des Hughes is still Toyota in Portlaoise far as I know, I don't recall Fitzpatricks opening a new garage there?

I can see Hyundai becoming the "new Toyota" soon at this rate. Much better range IMHO and better value too.

I don't really undertand, are all locations taking on Merc, Opel, Hyundai, Honda? Or one franchise at each location (which would make sense).

Some of the manufacturers are rediculious with demands on dealers. Just accept they are allowed be multi dealers as per block exemption rules and move on. Insisting on multi million euro showrooms etc is just not viable as a business model currently. I dont blame Fitzpatricks, obviously Sean and the lads are doing something right as dealers are closing down all around them while their still going strong. Their old Saab garage in K-town is now branded as Honda and has a full line up aswell.
The future for dealerships i believe will be as non specific multi dealers able to sell a focus as easily as a golf, for example. For a consumer a 'one stop shop' for all would be most desirable and better suit peoples limited free time as they wouldnt have to go from billy to jack trying to get the best price.
