Came home over the weekend and my tv is giving me the no signal message

tried the automatic retuning, went to factory reset and start all over again

Its picking up the 8 tv channels and 10 radio stations but no picture

I've connected it to the indoor aerial aswell, portable aerial which has a plug and connected it to the back of the tv

is it the weather or what? am i doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

As well as what? Was it already connected to an outdoor aerial?

I wouldn't depend on an indoor one, even if it seems to offer reliable reception most of the time.

i used it in my old house, just plugged the tv into the wall and used the indoor aerial on its own, it worked great

tried to do the same in my new place and now its not working

theres no other connection other than the indoor aerial

    what would ya advise?

theres a UPC connection in the room but I haven't used that at all, just looking for the basic irish channels

Make sure you are doing a factory reset on the TV. If you have an upstairs try the TV there. Also if possible try hanging the indoor aerial out a window before resetting the TV. If the indoor aerial works somewhere in the house then you can consider extending the cable or getting a proper professionally installed outdoor aerial.

Also check the neighbours roofs. Do they have outdoor aerials?

I would advise you to rescan. Saorview do not operate on the same frequencies throughout the country, they vary.

In Dublin it can be UHF channel 30 or Channel 54.

In Wexford its Channel 23....... etc

    how do I rescan exactly?

Ive gone to factory reset, then hooked in my indoor aerial and then done an auto tune to see if it picks up any channels.

Sometimes it does but then the it says no signal

Other times it doesn't pick up any channels.

ive never had to do anything with different channels (.ie Channel 30 or 40)

Usually its a case of auto tuning and 1,2,3,4 and 5 are auto added

Okay so you have done factory reset. You rescan and it finds the stations ? Then you see the channel for a millisecond but it then says no signal ?

Move the aerial towards the window cill. It is normally the bext place for improving the signal.

The manual scan has an option whereby you manually pick the channel and it displays 2 bars, one quality, one signal strength which can help you finding the best place to position your indoor aerial within the house.

An indoor aerial will not work on the TV. Positioning is everything.

Where in the country are you ?

When you factory defaulted it chances are the channel country lineup is not selected to the Uk which is why u are getting sound and no picture, select ireland and auto tune and hopefully that will sort your problem.

    im in Wicklow

ive moved the aerial towards the window but its just not working

yeah it picks up all of the channels on the scan but the screen stays black just saying no signal, with intermittent picture and then black again

ive done it all correctly as I did in my previous place in Dublin, I think its down to the area im living in Wicklow now

ive chosen english as the language and Ireland as the region aswell so no issue there

Dpending on where you live in Wicklow you may get even no signal with any aerial.

Check on the Saorview coverage checker:

    http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-map/

Put in your eact address. Now see what direction is the nearest mast and how far away it is.
Also look at all your neightbours houses. Do any of them have a rooftop aerial? If so then that is what you need too.

In your old house you were one of the 10% that can use indoor aerials. In your new house you are one of the 90% that can't.

The TV network is designed for outdoor aerials approx 10 metres high and that is what you should use.

You will need an outdoor aerial.

You will get it in a kit that you can install yourself for €50.

I have a NTL connection box (tv connection port on the wall) in my room, now I don't pay a subscription for tv to NTL or UPC or Sky. If I use the correct pin cable can I plug in to the NTL wall box and then into the back of my tv to receive the basic tv channels?

Apart from subscribing to UPC or getting an outdoor aerial on the roof, how can I access terrestrial tv channels? I am in Wicklow by the way

    cheers

You might get some analogue channels from the cable tv point. You won't get any off-air broadcast services without the means of receiving them, be it a suitable aerial or satellite dish.

ran an auto tune there and didn't pick up any analogue channels :(

I recently moved into a place, theres an NTL connection in the room. Im just looking for RTE 1, 2 and TV3 with TG4

surely I don't have to get cable? an indoor aerial doesn't work. I don't see any aerials in the housing estate.

I think the estate has been fitted out where most people have UPC but to be honest I only want the basic channels.

Its not my property either so drilling holes into the wall etc.. is not an option

If an indoor aerial will not work, and you are not willing to pay UPC to supply TV then you won't get TV. It does not work by magic. A TV licence and an aerial is needed for Saorview. Saorview does not recommend indoor aerials.

we have paid our tv licence, its paid every year at this address.

But we don't have an outdoor aerial.

I know its a silly question and all, but is getting UPC the only option when you only want channels 1-4?

You need an outdoor aerial professionally installed. It's free after that.
