    Hi guys,

I've put a deposit on a Remington 700 sps varmint in .22-250. I'm just wondering if anyone on here has one and how do they find it??

    Tommy,
I have a 700BDL and CDL in 30-06 and an SPS in 223. They are all fantastic rifles and are the basic firearm for hunting/shooting in the States.

The SPS isn't as pretty but she will shoot well. In time you'll want to get a trigger upgrade. Here's the trigger you want. If you use the firearm for hunting, lamping, and such, the original stock should be fine, I still have mine.

However, if you're going to be asking for more precision, target work, or smaller vermin, you will probably want to upgrade the stock - the choices are endless.

That's the great thing about the 700, its so easy to find parts for.

For now, forget the trigger and stock and get the best glass that you can.

What is the primary purpose of the 700? Hunting? Lamping? Target? Have you a scope?

The main reason I bought it is for lamping. I already have a rifle for deer so I wanted a calibre for foxs and I think .22-250 is ideal so Ive been looking for ages and came across this one for sale.

Ive nothing for it to be honest, I wonder what's the best scope for foxing??

A fox at any decent distance is a pretty small target. You'll need good magnication. I would suggest a 6.5-20x with a 50mm bell, like this.

That's more than enough magnification for any lamping application.

My choice would be the one linked above. Other scopes that I recommend are: Nikon Prostaff, Sightron, and Redfield.

If you have the cash, of couse: Nightforce, US Optics, S&B, or Zeiss.

8x56 confidently take them out to 250 yards..

Good light is just as important as any scope..

Lads shooting 303's out to 300 yards with iron sights during the day sure :)
