I saw a quote saying they'd definitely decided to go chasing alright but no idea when he's out

Heard the Arkle is the target this year alright.

Can't wait to see him jump a fence, this boy is pure qwal-it-ee!

Is he definitely going Arkle route?

Looking to do an early accumulater for Cheltenham. Thinking Sprinter Sacre, Big Bucks, Quevega and Simonsig @ just over 38/1 is worth a flutter. First 3 are obviously relatively safe (as in they're gauranteed to show up for their races if fit at least) but if Henderson makes up his frickin mind I'd have no hesitation adding Simonsig to bet. All I've heard him say about the horse is that he's being going along on the gallops with the beast SS so that's enough for me! :)

Nicky Henderson said this recently so although its a very slim chance I think if Darlan doesn't turn out to be Champion Hurdle class (which I don't) then I think they will at least have a think about it.

“Has schooled over fences with Barry and was extremely good and the jury is still out about where he starts the season. Barry did think he was a Champion Hurdle horse with plenty of pace for two miles. But he was awfully good schooling over fences.”

Champion Hurdle is there for the taking this year.

Think they should definitely give him a go over two miles before Christmas.

Heard from a decent source he's staying hurdling captain conan going arkle route

Mark Howad said in his November update he goes chasing. Decision made after "lengthy conversations" between connections

Surely 2m over fences is too short for him. I mean i know hes class but he could be a gold cup horse. Did he not smash everything over a 2m 5f hurdle on the bridle? Think I might be getting mixed up ! :o

He didn't beat much in truth and the only danger to him ran out at the 2nd last.

He was outstayed by Fingal Bay last year so he's not a stout stayer as some seem.
He's plenty of speed and the Arkle could be quite a race with Overturn in it. He could set the race up nnicely for Simonsig.

    CheltFestNews @CheltFestNews

No entries for Simonsig at Newbury where yard stated they were hopeful he would return after his setback. Arkle backers getting twitchy yet?

Apparently had a setback and no entries.

Could this lead to him staying over hurdles this year if they run out of time for a chasing campaign?

He smashed them alright but he has a very high cruising speed and a decent turn of foot, a quick two miles will be right up his alley.

If I wasn't so ****ed off with ante post I would have a huge bet on him for the Arkle, apparently he has schooled very well.

Remember this is chemical Nicky we're talking about of Binocular fame if he told me it was Tuesday today i'd have to check a calender.

He wasnt right vs Fingal Bay, FB wouldnt beat him in a horsebox if he was 100%.

Think the Arkle will be poor this year unless some of them improve greatly for fences. Overturn is going to be 9 come the festival. Going chasing is silly imo.

Yea, I've a feeling Nicky might be up to his ole tricks with this one!

Watched ATR today and somebody emailed in asking Mick Fitzgerald about Captain Conan and the Arkle and Fitzgerald's reply, with a wry smile, was along the lines of "he's 8/1 to one for it now but that he was much bigger awhile back". From his reaction, I thought it was clear he has the horse backed at bigger prices and maybe knew something others didn't. He was also asked about Simonsig but didn't give any definite answers.

Either way...it's very strange that the horse has no set plan as of yet but I'm sure Betfair will tell whenever Nicky decides!

*RANT* I can't stand mick Fitzgerald every race he has a horse that is "this one is the one to watch, when Barry gets this one going there might not be anything going as well as him turning the final bend..he may not have placed in the past 3 years but count your lucky stars Nicky will have this one in top shape and Barry is the man.." butter wouldn't melt..he never shuts up about hendersons stable

It's annoying at times alright! He's definitely got a big insight to Henderson yard yet rarely gives anything insightful to punters bar the usual ass kissing that Henderson has top horses and Barry's a top jockey. Both true but we feckin know that!

He surely has a feel where Simonsig will go but you often get the feeling that he's just saying what Henderson wants the public to know..

Absolutely despise the man hes up there with mapletoft and thompson for the mute button,

best pals and golfing buddy's with the jockeys will never ever rock the boat a joke of a channel atr are having these ''experts'' talking to the viewers like we're braindead absolute tossers none these have a bulls notion about betting or exchanges ect all they say is ''Fav will take the beating,2nd fav is main danger and the 3rd fav has ew claims''

A typical ''Fitzy'' comment ''Well thar ya go back t enzo in the studio, what price was that inrunning enzo punters must of cleaned up there from a mile out''

    Rant over.

    Seriously?

He won a beginner chase let's not get ahead of yourself there.

I'm a firm believer horses shouldn't have more than one season hurdling if the plan is to go chasing.

I thought he looked outstanding, regardless of what type of race it was.

Good aul chemical nicky absolutely RANCID stable

    Yesterday

Henderson’s other Hennessy entry, the Irish recruit and recent Ascot winner Roberto Goldback, will not be running.

"The handicapper decided to put him up 13lb for Ascot, when all that happened was that it was his first run on decent ground," he said. "I’m inclined to run him in the two-and-a-half-mile race at Newbury on the Friday (Sportingbet Open Handicap Chase).

    Today

TRAINER Nicky Henderson is set to be double-handed in the Hennessy Gold Cup after deciding to let Roberto Goldback take his chance at Newbury on Saturday.

Henderson already has ante-post favourite Bobs Worth in the handicap feature but will also run his recent Ascot winner.

The Seven Barrows handler had initially indicated the 10-year-old would run at Newbury on Friday but those plans have now changed.

"We've had a slight change of heart and we have decided Roberto Goldback will run in the Hennessy after all," he said.

Peddlers Cross got a rating in the 160s when looking awesome in a beginners chase that I would have had a chance in :-).

I wouldn't want to be Jason Maguire when Overturn runs into a fence instead of jumping it.

I think he could well win the Arkle lads, I wouldn't be so fast to write him off.

Overturn was a shade below top class over hurdles and he'll probably be the same this year. That said, does the 2 mile novice ranks look that strong

I agree about the 1 season hurdling. I think they get too used to the hurdling or something, I've got nothing to back that up before you ask.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

He's 4.6 to lay for the Arkle but only 17 to lay for the champion.

Definitely think the RSA has a serious stat about horses who've spent more than one year over hurdles having an abysmal record. With regard to the Arkle Sizing Europe & I think Azertyuiop spent more than 1 year hurdling. Not sure if there's a serious trend in that race

I love Overturn & often thought he was under rated as a hurdler but he'll be 9 come March & will have some serious mileage on the clock. Has to be a worry that all his hard races will catch up on him eventually

Honestly if you back this thing at 16/1 for an arkle chase you may need psychological help. He will be 16/1 for a beginners chase over Christmas

    Wouldn't touch him at 100.

Arvika has blown the Arkle wide open imo and 10/1 looks savage value. I am a huge Simonsig fan but Arvika was awesome today.

    3 potential issues with Arvika

    1. Has had injury problems, could resurface
    2. Could be best of soft ground
    3. Ran in the Albert Bartlett as a novice Hurdler over 3m

Was hugely impressed today but my worries would stop me getting involved ante post.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

Sure he has been injured but any horse can get injured. He ran in the Albert Bartlett as a 5 year old, he is bound to have filled out since then.

Makes no sense! If a horse needs 3 miles as a 5 year old he just doesn't develop 2 mile speed as an 7/8 year old coming back after injury

Won over 2 miles on good ground at the punchestown festival 2 seasons ago,has has plenty of gears proper engine travels on the snaff and finds for pressure.

think hes a right chance in the arkle will always remember the bumper he was sent of long odds on and the winner of the race happened to be none other than AL FEROF

I thought Colonels point was he was beaten in Cheltenham?

He only ran at 3 miles once and got beaten well so you could argue its too far for him and he looks to have the speed for two miles.
