    hi people!

i am in dublin and i have a mysterious bird in the garden all this week
which i would like to identify. :D

it looks like a sparrow but a fair bit smaller - about 2/3 the size of an average
sparrow. it is a dark brown colour with no obvious other markings i can see.

it is very fast - it's reactions are remarkable. it leaves the other birds in
the garden for dust when it decides to move.

it doesn't seem interested in the bird seed, peanuts or bread crumbs the
other birds are milling about after. that's about as much as i can say for it.

any thoughts on what it might be? :)
    .

sorry need more info. What way is its tail.

Could it be a wren - their tails sort of stick up.

good questions. this thing moves about so fast, in a week i still haven't
got a really clear look at it! it's very small too as i mentioned.

i would say it likes to be under the hedge a lot more than other birds, probably
looking for insects i imagine, and it doesn't perch on high places like sparrows
etc (which makes it even harder to see as it's mostly in the shadows!)

cute little thing though - i would like to figure out what it is :D

LOL. Thanks, I wasn't expecting this and roared laughing.

If it's that tiny it could very well be a wren. One got into out conservatory about 12 years ago, landed on my parrot's cage, and Buddy decided to befriend it. I Caught it and took it outside, they're so tiny you would not believe!!

I think that sounds like a wren, only because we have some in our garden that match that description perfectly. Cute little guys.

Sounds like a Wren alright, in the winter they look rounder than the pic above, all fluffed up to keep warm.
They stay close to the ground a lot of the time, but for a small bird they sing such a lovely song, listen out for them. There's rarely one;)

    It could be a Dunnock.
Smaller than a sparrow, greyish breast and overall slightly duller looking than a sparrow.
They visit my garden in pairs and seem to eat the fallen bird seed.
They move fast along the ground almost like mice!
