I have a bit of a dilemma. I am a new tenant in the house and I got billed to pay a reconnection fee because the last tenants didn't pay and got disconnected. I am wondering is it not the landlords responsibility to pay the fee and not me the tenant?

They'll waive it if you explain the situation, and pay a deposit.

I would think it's the Landlord's. Hope you get an answer before the battery goes on your laptop or phone.

Not you I'd say. Not the landlord's fault either but at least they may be able to chase after the previous tenants for a reimbursal.

Burn the house down, it's no more good now.

This is what bad cheques and dodgy credit cards are for.

My advice with Bord Gais is to put it in writing ten days before you leave that you want to close your account. I know of a few people who've had problems closing accounts with them.

If you ring them they tell you that you need a new tenant to take over the account and they can't close it otherwise. The guy i spoke to was quite pushy with this and would not close my account. I was lucky, eventually I got the new tenants in my old place to take over and pay the bills that had built up since i'd left.

Otherwise, all that deposit i had paid them would've been pretty much gone.

If you used Bórd Gais energy you'd probably have faster internet and would've got there before me.
