How much to rent an acre?

    Hey everyone!

Im looking at some allotments at the moment, but the closest to me is about 350 euro for a 20x30 foot plot which is ridiculous these days.

OK, they have on site storage, car parking, toilets etc but still very expensive for someone who only wants to grow a bit fruit and veg.

My brothers mother in law rents about 4.5 acres for 600 euro for the year so roughly about 130 euro per acre.

So, really just wondering what the going rate for an acre of land is to rent?

    Thanks

It all depends where you are and who you know,or if you are looking for 1 or 500,if you are looking for 1 acre just to grow veg on it will get overgrown and you wont be able to manage it. 1 acre of veg would feed a small town in peek season. 350 for an allotment is crazy money, my advice is yourself and the brother fence off a small piece off the mother in law 4.5 and see how ye get on with it .

    Hey kerryjack

I actually thought about renting some land of the bro's mother in law but they are already renting it, not a major deal as she could always tell them that when the current contract is up, she will be taking some land back. The big problem with that is its about an hour and a half drive just to get to get up there so a 3 hour round trip.

Ill keep an eye out and see what i can find. there are a few farmers near to where i live (youghal) ill have to pop in and ask them to see what they say.

Thanks for the reply thou, appreciate it!

    Kevin
