Schladming or Saalbach

I know Saalbach gets a lot of recommendations here but has anyone been Schladming - 2 or 3 intermediate skiers trying to plan something...

Seems Saalbach is the place for Apres ski but once Schladming is fairly lively we'd be happy with that. Schladming has stronger snow record so even though we are thinking of going mid winter, I'd slightly prioritise that over apres..

Two of us were in Westendorf for a long weekend last March and without our own crowd we found it too quiet.

    Any feedback on Schladming appreciated.

    Thanks

Been there once few years back. Vast ski area and plenty of variety for the intermediate skier. Lift system is modern and pistes well kept like other Austrian resorts. There are only two runs back in to the town itself, a red and a black, if you’re all intermediates you won’t have a problem but it can get very busy. I felt the resort was very much used by Austrian and Germans as I only came across one other couple who where Irish, didn't meet any English however that could have been the week I went. Transfer is short which is always a plus and the town itself is nice. Cake shops a plenty I might add.

Apres Ski is really only in one pub called the Hohenhaus Tenne. The place is huge, give it a Google and have a look. They charge in some nights and have entertainment well into the small hours of the morning. It’s very popular so the other pubs in the town don’t really get a look in.

Feel free to PM if you have any other questions.

Thanks bcirl. Cant commit for a few weeks yet so we'll see how accommodation options work out.
