surgical extraction

    hi folks. my dentist recommended a surgical extraction with augmentation for a possible implant or bridge. got a consultation and from the recommendation decided to go for a bridge. the surgeon told me that i would not need an augmentation for a bridge so when for that. i did have an abcess at this stage which was dealt with too. my query is the price. the extraction was easy because i hadi previously had root canal done. when i asked for a quote before all of this i was quoted 400euro which i assumed included the augmentation. after the treatment i was still charged 400 which i paid. is it possible that the receptionist overcharged me because she assumed i had had the augmentation. is 400 excessive for an extraction ( no 5 upper) and the draining of an abcess. i had an xray (had been told consultation fee would be 100 euro). thanks

    Pricing is always discussed during a consultation,especially dealing with expensive procedures,& even more especially in an economic recession.
    The "cooling off" period between consultation & treatment is purposely to allow a patient time to mull over things& consider their options. Any confusion or queries over pricing should have been addressed **before** undergoing treatment - communication is a two way street.
    Sometimes your receipt will detail the exact treatment you paid for, if not, ring the surgery to clarify.

    Op, could you clarify the breakdown of cost please, is the €100 consultation and X-ray fee in the €400 or was it extra??

    Why do you think that a root canal treated tooth is easier to remove?? The opposite is more often the case....!

    Most oral surgeons would charge in the €200-€300 region for a surgical extraction. Was there extra time, appointments or procedures to treat this abscess? Any sedation etc?

    Socket preservation or grafting procedures can be expensive as the bone and membrane materials are expensive and then there's the time and work in placing them, €400 would have been cheap for a proper surgical extraction and socket grafting IMO.

    I'm guessing;
    €100 consultation
    €50 X-ray
    €250 surgical extraction

    Best to ask them....

    I recommend getting an implant if at all possible..... Where are you, I may know someone good close to you if you don't have your own dentist... (pm)

    Drumcondra... I had the tooth beside it extracted a long time ago so thought a bridge with 2 teeth would be good
