(Not sure is this is the right place:o)

Hi im looking to get a road bike soon enough, i should have about €400 to spend on it and was wondering from people with experience what would be the best one for the price. Or would i even be better off going for a second hand one thats in good condition to get a better bike.

    Thanks for any replies.

Triban 3 from decathalon or carrera virtouso. I think they might be both a bit over 4 though. Otherwise it's second hand. Second hand is probably the best place to find something decent for that money anyway.

The Triban 3 is 400 delivered.

The carrera is 375 at the min, but I'd take the triban, lighter, carbon fork, wider gear range.

    Triban 3 from Decathlon

    Carrera TDF from Halfords

Of the two, the Triban 3 is the easy winner.

IT comes in a box with the wheels off and the handle bars turned 90 degrees, you straighten the bars, fit the wheels, adjust the saddle height and away you go.

Both of them come this way btw, halfords will asemble if you you but it costs extra afaik.

I think ill go with the triban anyway, if its the better bike. I prefer the looks of the Careera but not bothered to much about that.

There's a fairly notable weight difference, the Carrera is pretty heavy, the Tirban also has the carbon fork which will make it a lot more comfortable over crap roads compared to the alloy on the carrera. Besides that there isn't a lot of difference, but those two are pretty importance differences.

The one advantage (but also disadvantage in another way) is that the Carrera has a double over the tribans triple, which should mean slightly better shifting BUT the triban, having a triple, will be a lot handier for getting up big hills, in the small whell in the front you could spin up a wall.

EDIT: Anyone able to tell me how to order from deacthlon from the republic? Its asking for postcode and not letting me insert country or county, Thanks.

Just got a reply on their facebook page there. They're wont deliver to Irelandfor a while because they changed warehouses or something like that. Is anyone able to recommend a bike on thr same standards as the Triban for around thr same price! Thanks.

It's would be a higher spec and a lot lighter, I think the Lapierre has a carbon fork too, which means it would feel a lot more comfortable to ride.

Register with Parcel Motel. You'll get a Belfast address for Decathlon to deliver to and you'll have to collect from Finglas (costing you €3.50) or they'll deliver to you (costing you €14.00).

Yeah it would be. It really is a matter of preference. The lapierre looks a good deal, I'm sure it would cost u around 900 new. At your price range I would reccomend second hand as these new bikes you are looking at aren't great bikes. The Lapierre assuming the guy has taken good care of it is a fairly good quality bike at the same price. You could hold out for something better second hand(although you may not get better), however compared to the new bikes you are looking at there is no comparison.

However often we want something shiny and new but if this is the case your budget will not get you a good new bike, but at the end of the day it is your choice.

I know that the OP already got sorted but if anyone (within easy reach of the M1) wants anything from decathlon online and is worried about delivery they could always take a spin up to the Belfast store in Hollywood Exchange, just past the George Best Belfast City Airport. We went up a couple of weeks ago and I got a ton of winter gear so cheap. It took about an hour and a half to get up there from near Balbriggan.
