I don't even know where to begin. Myself and himself viewed a place today, that we'd been eyeing for a while. I'm not scared of a bit of hands on stuff, and can see past the cosmetics of a place in need of modernization.

If we were to go near this place, we're looking at the works, and it's basically a box of three rooms (bungalow) and you have to leave the main door to the house to go into an extention (built onto a dividing wall) to get to the kitchen, through another door. That was given the unofficial go ahead from the next door neighbour. You're basically paying for the land on this, theres a site up the road from it 5k cheaper.

This place has no bathrooms or septic tank or access to public sewerage. Astoundingly the previous owner was doing her bathroom business "the old fashioned way" according to the estate agent. It is going to be big money to put this place right, either that or a wrecking ball. The place was just as how you'd expect it, like your grandmothers house, wall paper right left and centre, wood ceilings, and a gas heater to heat the place prior to viewing.

What am I asking here.. well this is an old build. I'd be looking to extend because the floor space is pretty small (aprox 630Sq ft), and there's no definition in the place. Previous viewers that have attempted to buy the place according to the estate agents, couldn't get mortgage approval because the building was too old and they were accounting the fact there was no sewerage system in place. With a bit of internet stalking, this place has been on the market on and off for at least a year, and I'd imagine it's the same problem coming up and up again. No surveyor has gone in yet, but I don't want to get my hopes up on this place. For buildings of this age, what other surprises are we likely to hit?

Sorry for such a long post, but theres a lot of stuff involved here, though it all involves planning and construction, alternatively running away from..

Any insight would be great folks, any opinions or out and out slatings of this place are welcome.

    Hi
Presumable it's in a rural area?
If so one of the most important things is the actual size of the site. If it is less than 3/4 acre you are in trouble.
Let us know & we can go from there :-)

Probably best to get some professional help...you're gonna need a sewrage system, how much it'll cost will depend on the site ..... Between a refit, the extension, sewerage... It could cost more than it's worth..
