Insulating an old house

I want to insulate an old 1930's house with solid walls, what is the best way to do this? I was thinking of using the Isover method with metal studs on the inside but was worried about condensation. If I kept the studs away from the wall about 1 inch and left a small vent at the bottom of the wall would this help eliminate the condensation. I cant use external insulation it needs to be on the inside, any views appreciated.
