It is hard to tell which of these two parties are more incompetent/corrupt...

I don't care if it comes from FF, SF or even the Monster Raving Loony party, the man should resign. In the past few months:

• He's been named in Stubbs Gazette as a defaulter
• He added sites from his own constituency to a shortlist when they clearly didn't merit it
• He had his own junior minister resign and criticise him publicly
• After replacing the board of the Irish Blood Transfusion Board (who have been dealing with the victims of the Hepatitis scandals) he remarked "some fresh blood was needed"
• He's presided over the farcical government response to the Savita Hallapanvar case

If this was the UK he'd be long gone. Having him continue as Minister sends a clear message to everyone else in politics that incompetence, stupidity and immorality will be tolerated.

Martin should look at his own personal record as health minister, never mind that of his party in government, before bashing other health ministers.

Dont' like FG sympathizers coming on to throw muck at FF immediately in an effort to try to play this the other way.

Won't work, we all know FF are incompetent and MM in particular when he was in charge of health.

That does not excuse Reilly who is has been making a lot of errors and dodgy decisions too making him also a terrible minister for health.

Should add to the list of his mistakes the budget overruns.

Martin and O Reilly were equally bad health ministers and Harney was no better and nor was Cowen. Yes Martin may be accused of being the pot in a namecalling exercise.

The ministry is an unwieldy and costly mess, requiring a minibudget (not for the first time) and really needs a minister in charge of social insurance and health insurance, effectively a third finance type minister , to separate out the funding and the execution issues, if we are to have full universal healthcare.

Dont forget that O Reilly also has a smaller ministry than Harney and Martin, Children was taken out at the last election and gaeltacht demoted to a junior in Arts.

I hope you are not referring to me, I have never defended FG, I will never defend FG, I will never vote FG again...my problem is that we have two politicians (who are multi millionaires at the expense of the taxpayer) staging a puppet like pantomime, whilst probably either abusing/excusing the abuse of the expense system as they speak ( all the while closing hospitals /removing much needed care for the vulnerable/taxing families that cannot afford it/driving families apart through emigration/causing a huge increase in suicide etc etc)

The rot needs to be stopped at some point

For an impartial reader, facts please?

If I were to add anything to this thread, and again coming from an impartial background, it's that this new proposed, and I emphasise the word PROPOSED, healthcare revitalization (or whatever you want to brand it) which baffled all of the critics immediately because of its immense complexity and actual sense (once you get down to reading it, thinking logically instead of fiscally & taking impartial knowledgeable views from professionals working within said industry) is that we finally have an actually qualified professional best suited to fulfil the task as Minister for Health proposing a sound system.. If I were to give my opinion :-)

Seriously...google hospital closures and take your pick, if you are happy with the performance of our Health Minister fair enough, I have past experience of attempting to defend similar incompetence, I was blind...

If I were take issue with your post it would be the emphasis on the word Proposed, sounds vaguely like a similar word to describe a 5 point plan I seem to recall, that is if I were to take issue....

Mr. Martin obviously has a sense of humour!

It was his Fianna Fail party and friends who got us into the mess we are in.

For Mr. Martin to call for the resignation of Dr. Reilly , is nothing but hypocrisy.

Mr. Martin and his Fianna Fáil buddies should be hanging their heads in shame,
better still they should keep their mouths shut, no one is interested in listening to the clap trap they come out with.

Strange how things work out: Not that long ago, nobody wanted Enda Kenny as taoiseach (not even a lot of his own party) and everyone wanted Reilly to be health minister. You really can never predict the future of politics.

I wonder who would be a good alternative to him as health minister
