Judging from your pictures it looks like you replaced your parking lights and not your headlights?maybe I'm wrong.

are there three bulbs in the headlights? sorry if its a stupid question.

it was my first time changing them, now ya have me thinking i did it wrong :)

but its weird because the lights now are the same as what they were before i went near them.

The side light is usually a W5W, small wedge based bulb. The main and high beam could be anything from H1 to H7 bulb type, different bulb for each light. You might have changed the wrong bulb. Probably is 2 x H7 bulbs in it.

The top section is parking only, and the lower section is the dip and main beams. Lower bulb is gone I'd say.

Thanks lads ill have another look tomorrow, i kept the bulbs that i took out so will put them back in :)

Have a look at the bulb you took out, you will see if the filment is broken or not. When changing tomorrow, turn the side lights on, make sure both sides match, then the main beams and check and then the full. When you see which one is out, look into the head light, from the side so not to blind yourself, and see which bulb is working.

If your still unsure of what bulb your changing maybe put up a picture of the bulb and someone will tell you if it is a parking light bulb or a dipped headlight bulb.

ok i think i got to the bottom of it :)

I bought H4 bulbs, i take it they are for the high beam?

    Thats what i replaced anyway.

Does anyone know if Micks garage or Halfords do the one low beam?

    Thanks for you help lads.

Just checked the Philips site, your high beam should be a H1 and the main beam a H4.

    http://www.philips.co.uk/c/eco-headlights/14238/cat/

click on Go on the car lamp guide and select you car and light from there.

Did you delete your last post OP?

Anyway I have just checked outside in the cold and wind (the things I am happy to do for my fellow boardsies;)) and the large round cover is for the dips/main bulb. The other smaller cover with the thumb/finger grips is for the indicator and beside that up on top behind yet another small thin cover is the parking light. The other side (drivers) side headlight has to be removed completely to change the bulbs because of no access, although its not hard to do so though in fairness.

I dont know how you were able to get a camera in to take the pic OP?

Hey Jimmy, yeah i did, i cant remember what i said now.

Anyway I solved the problem (bar a blown out indicator light)

It was a user problem :) i should've read the manual properly.

Idiot alert: I thought when turing the knob it was going to dipped headlights, and turn it twice it was going to full beams :o

sorry for wasting all your time :)

Maybe there's something up with that car lamp guide, but H4 dips AND H1 full makes no sense - a H4 is a dual filament bulb, for combined dips/fulls.

The frighteningly common mistake of not knowing what lights are what, or how to work them explains the rest of the OP's problem. That sounds like I'm being harsh redarmy, but seriously - you're driving over a tonne of metal, in public, maybe even carrying loved ones as passengers - at least learn what light is what, and how to use them. How to replace them is nice too but you can pay someone to do that.

That switch is slightly different to whats in our car.Maybe yours is the newer model? With ours from the off position, you turn one position to the right to give you parking, next position is dips. While at the dip position, if you pull out the switch towards you will give you the spot lights down under the bumper at the front if fitted.Pull the switch out further again will give you the rear fog.The left stalk on the steering column will give you the main/full beam while the dips are on.Just pull each time for alternative dip/main beam.

You are not wasting my time anyway OP;), I have just spent 3 hours in the same weather conditions changing the rocker cover gasket on our car.

Bye the way on an unrelated issue OP, how is your clutch pedal, any lateral movement?

    you have Fiesta too?

Clutch isnt bad, no problems so far, touch wood. Sometimes find it hard getting gearstick into first sometimes but maybe i need to get used to it :)

well there is a 2003 fiesta in the house, its not mine.

The reason I ask is that the clutch master cylinder has been changed twice. The reason, that stupid plastic rod that connects the pedal to the cylinder. If the pivot nut/bolt on the pedal loosens, it throws off the force on the rod and could snap it off.A bit of a pain to change the cylinder.

 Spotlights should only come on with your full beams. Hint - 90% (95%?) of cars do not have spots.

You might, however, be referring to lights for use in times of Fog. As for parking lights, the clue is in the name as to when you should use them.

Slightly off topic, but on the 2004 Fiesta, do you have to pull half of the front end of the car off to change a bulb, like on the 97-03 one?

Don't you know that reading the manual is cheating?:D

What are ya going on about?:confused:I never said how to use them, only what each position was.Its up to the driver to use them within reason of course:D.You are right about the spotlights yeah they are not spotlights but fog lights.I will give you that but you knew what I meant so I think you are being a bit pedantic.

You are also right about the parking lights too.I hate when I see cars driving in the rain or in dull weather conditions with just the parking lights on.They are useless being on in the day, and are only meant to be on while parked in the dark.If you need to have lights on in the day you should have the dips on.

So you see we do agree on most points so I dont know why you are getting hot under the collar.Anyway I leave it at that and move on:)

Incidentally here are the spotlights fog lights on our car.

The clutch pedal in my wife's Fiesta (04) kept clicking a couple of years after buying it , so I did a bit of looking online and it turned out there was a recall / fix notice about the problem .

I brought the car to the local Ford dealer , told them what was happining and it was sorted within minutes .
All it took was a new clip on the pedal .

I can't find a direct link about the recall , but here's a forum post about it -

The front grille has to be removed ( only a couple of clips ) , and the headlight unit has 2 ( I think ) screws .

oh I know what your talking about, its the clip that holds on the aforementioned rod onto the pedal.A bad design in total is the operation of the clutch master cylinder in these cars in my view.Considering the clutch is used so often on any car, you would think that the makers would have designed a more robust set up:(.

The clip was updated to a slightly different design at the time of the recall , the clutch pedal on my wife's car hasn't had any issues since the clip was changed by the Ford garage .
