Inspectors Recording house

    Hi,

Not sure exactly where to go with this. I'm currently being means tested by the social welfare. The inspection is on-going 6 months now and I've had 3 different meetings but anyway that's not the issue.

All week a car has been parked outside my daughters house and only today I've managed to confirm there is a camera on the roof recording the house. My ex is freaked out by this understandably but I want to know is this legal? Are they allowed to do this while means testing me?

It's fairly obvious they believe I am living in the house but this is now upsetting my ex and she wants to call the guards. She is in the house alone with my daughter and you can understand she isn't happy with this.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it legal for them to do so? Should she ring the guards and report it?

    Thanks

If your ex is scared and bothered about strangers outside her house in a car of course she should ring the Gaurds thats what they are there for. If i were her i cetainly wouldnt be waiting for my ex to get an answer on Boards about it:confused:

There's no-one in the car, there is a small camera on the roof pointing at the house. She can do as she pleases, however as I am certain this is due to my means test so I feel obliged to get some info in it and advise her but thanks for the condescending reply none the less.

I don't think the reply is condescending. DSP absolutely do not record outside people's houses. I too think a call to the Gardai is in order.

She called earlier. I'm waiting to hear back but I'm 99% sure it's them recording the house with what has been going on the past few weeks. Is it even legal?

I don't think this has anything to do with state benefits.

Social Welfare do not record houses. They may keep an eye on houses to check for cars parked there at different times of the day by driving by, but do not use recording devices.
If you or your ex are worried about this car, call the Gardaí. They will advise you further on the legal aspect also.
