Sony KDL-40V4000 - How much is it costing me?

The main TV in this house is the Sony Bravia KDL-40V4000 and its a great TV. No Saorview but UPC is great on it.

Anyway, I was looking at an old review here:

Under Energy Consumption it says:
Default 235 watts ["Shop"], 196 watts ["Home"] *
Calibrated 88 watts
Standby 1 watt


For a 40" TV, is that a lot? The TV was bought a few years ago before this A+ and B rating stuff was standard.

The reason I ask is, if its costing too much, and its worth it, then I can demote that TV to the spare room for playing XBOX on, replacing the old widescreen CRT, and get a new A+ rated TV as the main household TV. Currently, this TV does be on from about 5pm til ~midnight every weekday, and most of the day at the weekend.

Home use 196watts 7hours per weekday and we will say 14hrs per day at the weekend, so that is 63Hours.
63 x 196watts= less than 12.5 kilowatts.
I am not sure how much a unit of electricity is, but as far as i know it is less than 20cent. So it is costing around €2.50 a week while on and around €0.02 while off.

That claims that its roughly a tenner a month. Is that high or low for a TV of this size?

If you bought something like the above you'd be paying 3 Euro per month.

So an overall saving of 7 euro per month on your current tv.

You'd save €84 per year on your current bill.

Assuming you'd spend €500 on a new TV (which is very little), you take 6 years before your decision to replace the tv (based on electricity bills alone) would break even.

Bottom line, If you are happy with your current set then keep it.
