Looking for a road bike to train with and complete a half ironman next year. Sold my road bike 2 years ago and got into mtb. Don't want to spend a lot of money as I will only be using it for this event and mainly do mountain biking now. Looking at spending between €300-€400 max.

    Hi McLure,

Not sure if vintage steel is you're thing but I can offer you some choice in frame and parts:

    1985 Mercian 21.5" (54cm) Reynolds 531 (€400 mainly campag)
    1978 Raleigh 22.5 (56cm) Reynolds 531 (€300 campag/shimano)
1980's Motobecane 22" (55cm) Vitus Steel (€300 original french parts)

All these bikes come in around 20ibs in weight. I can tailor price depending on parts (Campagnolo down) and wheels (Clinchers or tubs) as required.

If you're only using it once I can really recommend vintage for value and resale value.

Might suit you ... or somebody else!

I'm based in Cork but on the road regularly

    Brendan

    Hi Longshanks,

I hope the Motobecane comes out ok. The Raleigh picture is terrible, but you can see the ad on adverts: http://www.adverts.ie/bikes/vintage-road-bike-campagnolo-mavic-shimano/2192623

Mercian is being cleaned up presently. Black in colour and beautiful lugs as with all Mercians.

    Best,

    Brendan

What running kit do you have on the mercian? And what top tube length is it?

    Hi G-rock,

Just seeing your post this evening - pouring outside so I'll comeback to you on the top tube length. I can supply different lengths of stem depending on needs if it helps.

I can build the Mercian with Campag Super and Nuovo record deraileurs brakes etc. depending on budget.Equally you can purchase frame on its own.

    Best wishes,

    Brendan
